Funded by Operation Santa Claus, the first session of the Accessible Hiking Workshop was successfully held on April 1, 2025, at Tung Po. Six wheelchair users, twenty elderly attendees, and twenty student volunteers from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) participated. The workshop included an introduction and sharing session on accessible hiking, an overview of TrailWatch and its features, and a social media applications tutorial.
Many participants showed great enthusiasm for accessible hiking. Wheelchair users expressed a strong desire to explore barrier-free hiking trails during the cooler autumn and winter months. Meanwhile, in the social media tutorial, many elderly participants learned how to use AI-powered tools to edit and enhance videos taken during the event before sharing them online. They found the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge technology highly rewarding. They hoped to practice more, so they could collaborate with wheelchair users to film and edit fun short clips during future accessible hikes.
All participants—elderly attendees, wheelchair users, and HKBU student volunteers—were fully engaged in the activities and quickly bonded with one another. They are now looking forward to autumn and winter, eager to put their newly acquired skills into practice on upcoming accessible hiking trips.
