We recently arranged a field trip with teachers, students, and parents from the SAHK Ko Fook Iu Memorial School to Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir. This route is suitable for multiple wheelchair users and has been included in the TrailWatch App. During the trip, we invited the students to try out the App and record the route.
The countryside offers the perfect setting to appreciate natural scenery, observe the local ecology, and foster teaching and learning. During the trip, teachers explained the history of the Tai Tam Group of Reservoirs and related relics, while we introduced the seven principles of Leave No Trace.
We also gave students the task of observing the accessibility of the route. The students were very observant, pointing out the barrier-free facilities and sharing their thoughts after trying them out.。
We also noted that some facilities have been improved over the years, including the addition of safe pedestrian crossings on Tai Tam Road and barrier-free access at the entrance to the picnic area. The public toilets at the south gate of Tai Tam Country Park are also being renovated (with temporary barrier-free toilets currently available). We hope that they will continue to improve the facilities in the future, making Tai Tam Reservoir a more comprehensive accessible route.
