Sponsored by “Operation Santa Claus,” the second session of the Accessible Hiking Workshop was successfully held on May 16, 2025, at Tung Po. The event brought together six wheelchair users, over ten elderly participants, and twenty student volunteers from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) to explore the joys and possibilities of barrier-free hiking.
The workshop featured three practical sessions:
Beginner’s Guide to Accessible Hiking – Sharing wheelchair-friendly route planning and practical tips. TrailWatch App Tutorial – In-depth guidance on using this tool to record and share accessible trails. Smart Video Editing Workshop – Teaching participants how to use AI tools to quickly edit and share activity videos on social media.
Wheelchair users expressed excitement about trying out the recommended accessible hiking routes in the autumn and winter seasons. Elderly participants showed great interest in AI editing techniques, saying: “Learning cutting-edge technology is rare for us—we’ll practice more and create fun hiking videos with our wheelchair friends!” Meanwhile, HKBU student volunteers not only assisted in running the event but also built meaningful connections with participants.
All attendees demonstrated strong enthusiasm for learning and expressed eagerness to apply their new skills in upcoming accessible hiking activities this autumn and winter. Beyond skill-building, this workshop fostered mutual understanding among diverse groups, truly embodying the spirit of inclusiveness.
